Education

After studying art for three years with world-renowned artist Vernon Swart, Cher studied journalism at Rhodes University. Following this she studied and practices Interior Design in Somerset-West. After moving to the country where she was surrounded by beauty and space Cher began on her painting journey with no formal education. She held her first exhibition in Stanford and hasn’t looked back since.

Philosophy

I paint purely for the pleasure, for the love of painting. Life will provide, and with passion, there are endless opportunities.

Inspiration

There is beauty all around us and if you focus on it, you’ll see so much more of it. CHER works from photographs that she loves, hers and those of accredited others.

Medium Cher works in

Cher’s work vibrates with a refreshing joie de vivre as she explores self-contours, colours, space and balance in thick busy layers of colours. She works closely from selected photography and is ultimately a representational painter. Cher portrays beauty and magic in her portraits, vibrant textured energy and vitality in her horses and whimsical beauty in her flowers and still life paintings.

Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.

Pablo Picasso

Painting completes my life.

Frida Kahlo

To be an artist is to believe in life.

Henry Moore

Each child is born an artist, we just need to remember we have it in us as we grow up.

Cher van Schouwen

The "earth" without "art" is just "eh".
